Snickers. Bounty. Kinder Country. This is deliberate shelf storytelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-text-subtitle is-style-text-subtitle--3\"><br>Mixed Feelings \u2014 and That\u2019s the Point<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an FMCG observer, I have <em>mixed feelings<\/em> \u2014 and that\u2019s not necessarily a bad thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We live in a <strong>free market<\/strong>. Anyone can produce what they want. If consumers are buying these products, that means there is demand. Simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>And that demand can come from at least two very different motivations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Nostalgia with fewer regrets<\/em><br>Consumers miss the taste and emotional comfort of classic bars but want less sugar, simpler ingredients, or better macros.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>No comparison at all<\/em><br>Some shoppers may not even consciously link the product to the original \u2014 they simply see a healthy bar that fits their needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In both cases, <strong>there is nothing inherently wrong<\/strong>. Consumers have agency. They choose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But maybe there\u2019s something more interesting happening here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What if this copy mechanism is actually a good thing?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What if for every \u201cbad-for-you\u201d product, the shelf also offered a credible, healthier alternative \u2014 same flavor territory, same usage occasion, same price range?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Decision tree looks like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You\u2019re hungry \u2014 <strong>yes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you have to buy a sugar-loaded bar \u2014 <strong>no<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Now the <strong>responsibility<\/strong> shifts fully to the <strong>consumer<\/strong>. Not because options are <strong>limited<\/strong>, but because options are <strong>abundant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imagine this logic applied consistently:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>healthier versions of the most popular sweets\nbetter-for-you alternatives to iconic savory snacks\nfunctional substitutes that don\u2019t feel like punishment<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>From a public health perspective \u2014 <strong>that\u2019s powerful<\/strong>.<br>From a brand strategy perspective \u2014 <strong>that\u2019s disruptive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The Numbers Behind the Icons<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To understand what\u2019s at stake, it\u2019s worth remembering the scale of the originals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>Snickers (Mars)\n    One of the world\u2019s best-selling chocolate bars\n  Sold in more than 70 countries\n\nKinder Country (Ferrero Group)\n    Part of a portfolio that generated \u20ac17+ billion in revenue (2023)\n    Kinder is among the top 5 confectionery brands globally\n    Especially strong in Europe, where brand trust is exceptionally high\n\nBounty (Mars)\n    A cult classic with coconut lovers worldwide\n    Strong emotional equity built over decades<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>When you \u201cborrow\u201d from brands of <strong>this magnitude<\/strong>, you\u2019re not just borrowing design \u2014 you\u2019re tapping into <strong>decades of mental availability<\/strong> built with <strong>billions in advertising spend<\/strong>.
